GM1 (Robert Gordon Menzies) 50 years old!...

The background image comes from a colour photo (scanned as a monochrome image) and taken late one friday afternoon in autumn 1998 in the Islington Workshops of Australia Southern Railroad. It shows the locomotive restored to its original Commonwealth Railways livery by the Port Augusta workshops of what had been Australian National up until a few months before when the company had been broken up into pieces and sold.

At that time, GM1 was being used as the workshops shunter when required.

The background image is 800 pixels wide. If your browser window is wider than that (if you see the image repeating to the right), the page will look better if you resize it to avoid the 2nd image.

If you wish to see the original photo that this background image was taken from, we shall put a link here in the future.

In the mean time, we are just getting the information up as quickly as possible.
